Vasyl Lomachenko vs Luke Campbell RESULT: Magnificent Loma beats brave Brit by wide points decision

Vasyl Lomachenko beat Luke Campbell by wide, unanimous decision in a thrilling fight on Saturday night at the O2 Arena in London.

The pound-for-pound king floored his challenger in round eleven en route to a dominant victory, despite a brilliant effort from the Brit.

The bout began with close, competitive early rounds as Lomachenko went through his usual routine of closely studying his opponent and 'downloading the information' necessary to combat him.

In round five the champion began to ramp up the gears, as he built a lead and then hurt Campbell for the first time in the fight.

The Brit narrowly survived the session, staggering to the bell after being hit with crippling body shots - not for the last time.

Despite ultimately being outclassed, Campbell was never overawed and remained competitive throughout.

He battered Lomachenko's body throughout the middle rounds and even appeared to hurt him for a fleeting moment in round seven.

The Ukrainian was temporarily buzzed, but quickly turned the tables as he almost instantly returned the favour and had the Brit on the back foot again by the end of the session.

As they entered the championship rounds, both men were breathing heavy as they knew they'd been in a battle.

However, it was Lomachenko who came out fresher in round eleven and smashed home two brutal body blows that saw Campbell finally wilt and take a knee.

The relentless pressure paid off and, although Luke survived to hear the final bell, it was a case of job done for Loma who won by unanimous decision - 119-108, 119-108, 118-109.

Victory saw WBA and WBO champion Lomachenko also pick up the vacant WBC title.

His next fight will see him challenge for Richard Commey's IBF belt to become undisputed king, and he referenced his goal immediately in the post fight interview.

“Of course I am happy," the champion said, "Next IBF, this is my title.

“Like I said, in UK, the best fans in the world, thank you very much I appreciate it.”

Luke Campbell had nothing but praise for his conqueror, and added: "He's just beat me, so he's very good, he's a special fighter.

“I can go on and achieve anything. Tonight was Lomachenko's night, but my time will come.”

On the undercard, Alexander Povetkin beat Hughie Fury and Charlie Edwards retained his WBC flyweight title thanks to VAR.
